Firm History

Goldberg Jones opened their doors January of 1996. Founding members Bill Goldberg and Rick Jones realized a need for husbands and fathers in the Seattle area to have a legal resource and a firm that would champion their rights in Divorce, custody, child support or other family law matters. Clients agreed! The Seattle office grew rapidly based on excellent results, personal referrals and marketing that spread the word that men now had an ally in the legal system. Kenneth Alan, Managing Attorney has been able to seamlessly handle the office's growth, yet maintain the direct client contact, accessibility and responsiveness that our clients value greatly.

It was not uncommon to get calls from prospective clients that were outside of the Seattle area but desirous of our services. So, in 1997, Goldberg Jones opened their Portland office. Just as with Seattle, Portland clients have been directly responsible for our consistent growth and reputation within the legal community. Tremendous credit also goes to the tireless efforts of Managing Attorney Colin Amos, whose leadership by example has created a culture of success and a team of attorneys that is unparalleled in Portland.

Opening the San Diego office proved to be an easy task with Managing Attorney Zephyr Hill at the helm. With his thorough demeanor and keen eye for talented attorneys, he has facilitated a mirrored growth that Goldberg & Jones has come to expect. Even though each state's law is different, the collective offices of Goldberg Jones have created a synergy, with each benefiting from the other and a clear course charted for continued success.

Goldberg Jones has grown from a three person startup, to a multi-state firm with well more than 20 attorneys devoted solely to the practice of family law, specifically, the representation of husbands and fathers. We believe we correctly saw the need for a man's voice to be heard in family law courts, but we are truly humbled by the continually increasing flow of men who choose to have us be part of their team. We take seriously our obligation to continue to provide the level of service, compassion and results that have made us perhaps the largest firm of its kind catering to men's family law needs. Thank you!.

Being in the state of Washington offered some challenges with a case that originated in Oregon but we were able to overcome these with a very positive results. I can't stress enough how important it is to have proper representation and the folks at Goldberg Jones are the best at making sure their clients are treated with courtesy and respect. Thanks again for getting me what I needed and "hats off" to Brad for doing a great job!

Colin had an immediate grasp of my situation. He was able to quickly research specific areas of concern, and brought to my attention several important issues that I was not aware of. After talking with him, I had a good sense of the entire picture, and what strategies I could employ to deal with it. Well done!

They were more concerned about getting as much money out of without actually going to court. Got involved in email battles back and forth over minor stuff with opposing counsel, all at tremendous cost to myself. The $5000 retainer was exhausted before my lawyer ever made it to court (which she never came once) and the additional $2500 was exhausted and then was threatened to be dropped immediately without further assistance.

Unfortunately, hired Philip jones as my attorney in a severe Parental Alienation case and spousal support modification, and this attorney was inept and very passive in a parental alienation case, up to and including, not even saying a word to a judge in 3 court hearings. The most frustrating moments of my entire life. Please if your case includes Child custody, parental alienation, parenting time, etc. GO ELSEWHERE. I spent nearly 18 months and A LOT of money and got nowhere. Beware you have been warned, wish I could yell it from the rooftops

I hired John Alarcon to represent me, and honestly, I’ve never worked with a more incompetent attorney. I spent around $11,000 and received little to no communication from him. He never took the time to explain the details of my case or work with me on it. At our first hearing, he promised we’d fight, but when the time came, I had to take the initiative by bringing in witnesses. John ended up folding and convinced me that giving the other side exactly what they wanted would be the best approach. In the end, after all the money I spent, the result was only a $400 biweekly, 2-hour supervised visitation with my kids and a drug test. I consulted with several other attorneys, and they all agreed that John was not worth what I paid. After three consultations, I found a new lawyer. I strongly recommend avoiding John Alarcon.

Goldberg Jones in Portland is a complete disappointment. They are just another chain, much like McDonald's, and do not represent the interests of men in need of legal help. Their commercials on the radio are misleading. If you want to hire a used car salesman who doesn’t care about your case, this is the place for you. If you want to waste time and money while having no idea what’s happening with your case, then this is the firm to go to. If you want to see your retainer go down the drain without any meaningful work being done, this is your place. Colin Amos, the managing attorney, is as dishonest as they come. A quick look at his photo says it all—he’ll say whatever you want to hear, only to pair you with a completely different attorney. When I consulted with Colin, he assured me he would try to avoid going to trial and would assign me an attorney who would handle negotiations with the other party to reach an agreement. That’s not what happened at all.
