Can I help my stepfather get his work permit renewed?

Answered by attorney Lynne Rogers Feldman
Immigration lawyer at Feldman Feldman Associates, PC
What was the basis of his work renewal from 1988 until now? If the stepparent relationship was created before your 18th birthday you can petition for him as an immediate relative. Whether he is eligible to adjust status or must process overseas can only be determined once I know the complete immigration history for him. Contact my office as indicated below if you would like a consultation. We do charge for consultations but fees paid for the consult are then credited toward the fees for your case if we are retained thereafter.

Applying for a returning resident visa at the consulate is best. How long ago did it expire? How long has she been overseas? Less than 6 months?

Can I get married to an SSI member who gets her disability income once a month and lives with her mother and brother?

Answered by attorney Phong Thanh Tran (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Law Office of Pho Ethan Tran, PLLC
Yes. You can get married even if your fiancee is receiving SSI and lives with her mother. In the event that your fiancee is unable to meet the minimum income requirement to be a sponsor, she can recruit up to two joint sponsors who are able and willing to be your sponsor.
