My boyfriend is in the states illegally, is there any hope for his status change and is marriage a good solution?

If he entered lawfully or was the beneficiary of a labor or family petition, he might not have to leave the country. Otherwise, he will have to leave the U.S. and apply for a waiver. This is possible but you should make an appointment to discuss the details.

What are the requirements to apply for a visa from Dominican Republic

Answered by attorney Stephen Arnold Black
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Stephen A. Black
You can either get it through a job offer, win the diversity visa  lottery, be a person of extraordinary talent and ability, get it as a refugee or an asylum seeker, or the easiest and smoothest pathway is to marry an American citizen.

What type of visa does my friend need?

Answered by attorney Michael Alexander Yurasov-Lichtenberg (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Havens Lichtenberg PLLC
The way you described is the correct one: your friend should ask the U.S. Embassy for a B visa so he could come visit the schools and select one where he would want to become a student. Every school that accepts foreign students has a special staffer, called Designated School Official, who prepares paperwork necessary to obtain a student visa - or to change status in the U.S., without going back home. Filling out an application for change of status (Form I-539) is not a very difficult task, at least, for a prospective medical student. The form and the instructions are at uscis.gov/forms.
