He should be disbarred by the states he is licensed in. He stole my money and did not provide the service that I hired him for. Any attorney who takes money & doesn't provide the service is a thief and this is what James Elliott Field is. A thief, con-artist, crook any derogatory name to do with a fraudster is what he is. His license should be revoked by the state.

Don’t do it! He took my money and tortured me! He was supposed to send out a demand letter and said it would be sent within a week. He wouldn’t answer his phone, so you can’t ask him anything. He sent me a draft of the demand letter and it was someone else’s case! He then sent me the demand letter draft and it had so many mistakes. Then I was trying to tell him not to send it and he said he already sent out the letter and he finally sent me a copy. I don’t know what is going on with my case because he won’t tell me so I have to get new counsel. I just told him I’m getting new counsel and he finally responds with a new bill after I already paid him in full. He’s incompetent. My initial consultation was mostly regarding his personal problems. Don’t do it. He’s a mess and he will aggravate you so badly by sending you bills and not answering your emails or calls.

I found Mr. Field through the NC Attorney Referral Service. I have been dealing with a nuisance neighbor situation for over a year. He suggested a cease and desist letter, which he took weeks to complete and charged me $2,000 for. He basically took all of the emails I had sent the neighboring landlord and condensed them into a letter. There were several mistakes, such as the date "Sept 31" (not a real date) and misspelling of my name. When I pointed out those mistakes, he charged me more to make corrections. When the cease and desist letter was ignored by the landlord and tenant, he suggested I go to small claims court. He charged me to assist me in filling out the paperwork, but was ineffective, as the magistrate would not hear the case and sent it to civil court. I would have been better off just using Google.

I had to instigate all communication. He never followed through. He tried charging me additional money - for horrendous service

Horrendously slow communication and little affirmative action regarding details to inquiries and clarification on legal matters and counsel. Unacceptable level of follow through for the services regarded in retaining. I simply had little value gained from the case and was grossly overcharged for the quality of work and true, honest billed hours of work dedicated to case matters. Timeframe to receive an accounting was over 9 months at which point the retainer had long been exhausted.
