The Merna Law Group, P.C. is a law firm established in 2003 with an office in Virginia Beach, VA. At this office location, there are 3 lawyers practicing bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy, chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy and 8 other areas of law.
They helped me through a difficult and embarrassing time. I would go to them again if I had another legal issue.
I was particularly impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of the staff at Merna Law Group. I had initially gone to another law practice to handle my bankruptcy issues and felt like I should get a second opinion. I was greeted warmly and my questions were answered in a very straightforward way. I would recommend this law practice to anyone who is in need of a lawyer.
Working with my lawyer on filing for Bankruptcy was Wonderful to work with on your problems and handled every issue with care.
They have made a difficult time in my life, easier and were great at navigating me through the whole process.

I had more contact with the paralegal than I did with the attorney.
My experience with Merna Law Group, P.C. was below average; I hired them to represent me in my bankruptcy case. I had to send them the same information numerous times. It was always the same thing; we didn't get it, send it to this email address. I would send the information to the lawyer, the assistant and their shared email address only to get the same response, we didn't get. John Merna would chime in after I'd sent an email on something that had already been resolved. I would not recommend them.
My husband signed a Letter of Re-Affirmation for his car loan so that it would not be included in the bankruptcy. Mr. Merna's office failed to file this letter with the lienholder prior to us going to court and our bankruptcy being discharged. Therefore, the bank would not recognize the letter and my husband's banking privileges were revoked. Bankruptcy was discharged in May of '09, letter wasn't filed with the bank until Aug of '09.
This law firm does the bare minimum. Unless your case is cut and dry, I would look for a more attentive attorney. To warn others about their lack of commitment, I posted a review on another website. A few hours later I received a call from John Merna directly saying he would drop my case and sue me if I didn't remove the review. At no point did he ask why I posted it and what he could do to help. Not customer service friendly.
