About Philip Katz

Philip Katz is a career divorce and family law lawyer who has practiced exclusively in family law for over 17 years. Philip thrives on challenge. Give him a tough set of facts in a divorce or a never-before-seen legal issue and you will see an advocate eager to tackle the obstacles. More importantly, Philip approaches his cases with solution based advocacy in mind trying to resolve cases without the necessity of trial so that his clients can move on with their lives intact.

Whether in the negotiation room or the courtroom, Philip takes on complex issues with creativity and enthusiasm. Because of Philip’s extensive litigation background combined with his past experience as an elementary school teacher, clients get the benefit of a knowledgeable and experienced litigator as well as a compassionate individual. A father of three, Philip knows that divorce and family law clients want an attorney who understands everything from the value of a business to the value of being able to tuck their children in bed at night.

Philip earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He then received his Juris Doctorate from Creighton University School of Law in 2005. Attorney Philip Katz is a member of the American Bar Association, the Nebraska State Bar Association (NSBA), and the Omaha Bar Association. Within the NSBA , Philip has served in several leadership roles including as Chair of the family law section for two consecutive years.

In 2012, Philip authored “Cesar v. Alicia & Its Progeny: Major Changes to Nebraska Paternity Law: Consequences Intended & Otherwise,” an article appearing in the Nebraska Lawyer magazine. He presented and spoke at numerous legal seminars on various family law related topics. These topics include the changing paternity laws in the State of Nebraska, and the complexities of dividing retirement accounts in divorce. He led a panel discussion of psychologists addressing the changing roles of mental health professionals across Nebraska in child custody cases, and has also presented twice on issues affecting military members in divorce.

What sets Philip apart from other outstanding lawyers is his relationship with clients, enabling them to trust both his legal skills and his ability to see them through one of the toughest periods of their lives.

Mr. Katz was able to assist me with a very complex case involving UCCJEA implications across two states and a foreign country. His mastery of the statutes was so strong, that he ended up advising my attorney in a different state as well. His strong subject matter knowledge combined with his tenacity and desire to win makes him a wonderful attorney. I would strongly suggest him to anyone as an attorney of choice.

Family law litigation is inherently a personal issue. Philip and his team really took the time to ensure I felt cared for throughout this difficult process all while delivering top notch legal services.

We utilized Philip for the adoption of our daughter, I was the birth mother and after the Same-Sex marriage law was passed her non-bio mom had the rights to adopt her. Philip was great. It was a unique and new process and he navigated the unchartered well! Thanks, Philip.

You pay up front all money for your legal services. I was very surprised from such a reputable firm that your own attorney would doubt me that I was wrong when correcting him on information to my case. After that happened, it seemed the client/attorney relationship was broken and he then no longer wanted to represent me. Of course that was after spending my $8,500.00 to complete my case..

This issue here was not about money or a misunderstanding. This was a situation in which a client was let go for not letting the lawyer and firm do their job to the point of opening the firm up to significant liability for malpractice.

If you want an overpriced dude who is aloof on deadlines, sits on important emails for weeks or months, doesn't take your concerns about your child's safety nor your concern for the other party's mental health seriously... well, this is your guy! He received discovery request from opposing counsel and didn't send it until two months later, a full month after it was due back. Didn't wait on making sure to charge for it though! Among many other examples of his lack of promptness, he sat on an important email about schooling decisions until 9:30 the night before the deadline. What did the opposing party argue in court? That I'm not involved in our child's school because I wasn't adding to the conversation, when I wasn't even aware of the email for three weeks! I hope your child(ren) are worthy of the money spent to Katz. Don't bet on it.
