I ultimately reached 100% Permanent & Total, and I appreciate the assistance that helped finalize my VA claim. However, I want to share something extremely important for other veterans to understand before signing a contingency agreement with any VA disability law firm. The fee structure in my case was explained using language like the following: “Our fees are all inclusive in the percentage of the Fee Agreement… 33 percent of any backpay award or supplemental awards based off of our work.” Based on wording like “based off of our work,” many veterans (including myself) will reasonably interpret that to mean the fee applies to the backpay generated during the time the firm is actively working on the claim. However, what I ultimately learned after having to research VA disability law myself—because the explanation in both the conversation and email was ambiguous to me—is that contingency fees in VA disability cases can apply to the entire retroactive payment created by the rating

It took quite a while but they did help me reach my goal and a bit beyond that. I thank the Berry Law Firm for hanging in there. All veterans should talk to them if they need help The VA can be a hard system to deal with.

Berry Law has had my VA appeal for 6 years now and I am still no closer to getting it completed. Communication is horrible there is no explanation as to why it is taking so long....I received the response that is just the VA...unacceptable. VA has acknowledged that many of my issues are service connected but they only give 0% rating or they refuse to increase my rating. When I questioned my attorney about this I received the response... There’s really nothing I can do except keep checking...I submit the appeals and draft the appeals. It’s on the VA to make a decision on your claims.

Barry Law helped me get the initial paperwork to fill out and started the process to get my disability. That is as far as their help went. All correspondence was through mail and email. You could not get a hold of anyone to help with questions over the phone. I had several questions about wording and on the forms themselves. Barry Law was of no help in that regard. The VA would send me a packet, and two days later Barry Law would send me the same packet. So I got 2 of everything. I would not recommend Barry Law.

Hired Attorney Michael J. Wilson

After going through a DUI case with Michael I highly regret hiring him. He lacks communication, brags about his years of being a lawyer yet the two times he needed to present he was unorganized not understanding the judge and being called out for it not to mention showed up late the second time. He didn’t talk through with the prosecutor about different options available and when I questioned what I could do he just kept saying he highly recommends probation when he knowingly only spoke about that option with the prosecutor. Life goes on and it is what it is. But if you want someone on time, professional, understanding, gives his all to each case. Don’t hire Michael. He’ll give an excuse that he has so many clients he can’t remember what your case is even about.

Hired Law Firm

I started with with an initial consultation and spoke to them briefly a couple of weeks later for confirmation of my experience with the VA. From April to October I didn’t hear back from them. When I started receiving paperwork from the VA I decided to call them for an explanation of the documents I received for my evaluations. I left messages that were not answered; I left emails that they didn’t reply to until it was too late. I missed evaluation appointments due to mix ups. I didn’t know that I’d be seeing different contractors for evaluations. When I spoke the VA I was told that the law firm received the same documents that I did and it was their responsibility to walk me through that process. When I complained via Google reviews they stopped representing me with my claims. 100% of their negative reviews were due to lack of communication. Instead of addressing the issues they just dropped me. They didn’t even send out emails saying happy Veterans Day. NEVER USE THIS LAW FIRM.
