If my sister makes a petition to make my mom a resident, can she stay here and take custody of me?

Answered by attorney Alena Shautsova
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Alena Shautsova
Stay "here" meaning where? If you under 18 and is the US, you might be able to stay in the US. If you are overseas, you might be able to travel with your parents to the US if you get a parole.

Driving license for undocumented people

Answered by attorney Alan Lee
Immigration lawyer at Alan Lee Arthur Lee, Attorneys at Law
Unfortunately New York is not one of the states that will allow undocumented immigrants the privilege of a driver’s license. There are approximately 11 states which do allow such including California, Washington, New Mexico and Illinois. I do warn you that some individuals who attempt to obtain driver’s licenses in states of which they are not resident may encounter difficulties with local law enforcement and ultimately the Department of Homeland Security. Could different names on the green card and birth certificate be a problem for me to apply for SSI?

Answered by attorney Alena Shautsova
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Alena Shautsova
It is best to confirm all the names to one standard. You probably will have to amend the way the names are read on the green card. However, prior to doing that, you should speak with the SSA.
