After speaking to a dozen lawyers, Mark I must admit Mark stood out the most. He gave honest advice and walked me through the entire case with my landlord. It feels good to know that there are good lawyers out there that are willing to help people and not just interested in your money.

Mark is a remarkable attorney to whom I was referred by another attorney who I knew would not steer me wrong. Mark handled my case in a timely , efficient manner and kept me informed as the case progressed. He was easily accessible and responsive. Most importantly, he obtained a cash settlement for me that exceeded my expectation.

You know a good attorney when you find them. More specifically an attorney who is not money driven but rather willing to help their clients to the max and resolve their legal needs. I am reviewing Chalpin because he knows his way around the law and dedicates to serving his client's needs. He is well priced and makes it know upfront. He is very responsive and takes full responsibility of cases you bring to him. Unlike other attorneys in the Baltimore and Maryland area who would only speak to you

Mark provided excellent legal guidance, strategy and expertise; he took the time to explain how cases progress, steps involved, advice, potential outcomes, various options along the way. He efficiently communicated by email, phone whenever needed as our case progressed to settlement; great quality with reasonable, competitive rates.

Mark is very professional and had my best interest in mind, not just out for his paycheck. He gave me all my options and was very happy to explain everything and answer any questions I had. He's very knowledgeable about the law and I'd gladly recommend him to anyone. I was very pleased with his work!

I called Mr. Chalpin's office which advertised a "Free Consult". As soon as Mr. Chalpin's answered he didn't ask my name. He asked me "are you the landlord or the tenant". I responded the "tenant, possibly. Can I ask my question it's just a yes or no that I need". He replies "If I answer your question then I'm going to be inundated with more questions and I don't have that kind of time. You can go to my website and maybe find what you're looking for on the links." Prior to the call, I browsed his website and it didn't address my question at all. I informed him of that. He replies "well you need to look deeper, all the information you need are in the links." Here I am 3 minutes into a call, when all I wanted out of his "free consult" was a yes or no. I would've said thank you and that was it. My unasked QUESTION: [Do storage units (extra space, self storage) fall under landlord tenant law?] He is short, curt man with unnecessary bias towards "tenants". I would not recommend.

Not to be trusted, or taken at his word. Though he assured me from the beginning that his % only kicked in after his expenses were deducted, his retainer agreement was worded the opposite. A lawyer who resorts to the “percentage-of-the-gross-contingent-fee-scam” -- a practice which is not only illegal according to Rules of Professional Conduct, but resoundingly rejected as unethical by the ABA Commission on Ethics & Prof’l Responsibility. Also refused to do an asset check on defendant unless he could (excessively and illegally) profit from the expense. On top of this, even though his Retainer mentioned % cut, he gave himself the right to unilaterally cancel such agreement, on the eve of trial even, to force client to pay his inflated billable hours. When I asked if he had ever represented a client in a major injury case, first he said no, then he said he had, and won $100,000. When I asked for case # or name so I could verify, he said it was a private matter. A public filing?

Legal Malpractice

I retained Mark Chalpin in 2020 for a legal malpractice case and had a deeply frustrating experience. He was uncooperative, threatened to quit multiple times, and failed to advocate for me. He relied heavily on outside legal experts, adding thousands in costs. In one instance, he agreed to a deposition extension for one witness, against my objections, increasing my fees. His “office” was his dining room table, and he once greeted me in pajamas and a politically charged shirt, having canceled the meeting via a late-night email I hadn’t seen. He raised his rate mid-case from $225 to $325 and billed three times his original estimate and consuming much of my settlement. Despite my strong case, I received little value. His background as a government lawyer showed—he lacked litigation skills and assertiveness. Overall, the worst professional experience of my career. If you are looking for a strong advocate to represent you, I suggest looking elsewhere.
