Mike Sturgill, Bill Rossini and Philip Simpkins lost my case because they failed to submit my case files to the courts on time. They had several chances to submit them. They had my case for a year and waited to go over my evidence at 3 o'clock the day before my hearing. Prior to that they almost got my case dismissed because they were not setting up mediation as the court order. Prior to hiring them they knew I had court ordered mediation and had almost 4 months to set it up. After I informed them, I was going to report them to The Texas Bar Association they claimed I had an outstanding balance. I never received an invoice from them informing me that the $5,000 I gave them had been used up. The law firm came to me wanting to represent my case because I was having similar issues with my original attorney.

I hired this firm during a custody situation where my daughter was being wrongfully withheld from me. Over the course of my case I was assigned six different lawyers because they couldn’t retain staff. Every time someone new took over I had to re-explain my entire case. Hearings would come and my attorney would show up unprepared. The only reason anything went my way in court is because the facts were so clearly on my side. Communication was terrible. I would call, email, and text for weeks without a response while continuing to pay them thousands of dollars. After a year and a half of waiting for them to pursue enforcement on multiple violations, they finally told me I could no longer pursue it because new orders were in place. In other words, they delayed so long that nothing could be done. My daughter lost over a year with her father and I’m left with the bill. Avoid this firm and choose literally anyone else.

Mr. Simpkins is extremely lazy and just does the minimum to get paid. He gave no effort to follow up or even follow the case. He did not supervise the other attorney on the case, who ended up quitting and leaving me in the cold. Do not hire this guy even if you life depends on it!!

I'm really saddened to have to resort to writing a review. When I retained Themis the communication was good. However, the honeymoon phase quickly faded. After the first 3 months of our relationship all I had to show for it was an apology from Philip Simpkins, a credit back to my account for their errors, a promise to communicate more, a resignation from one of their main attorneys that was on my case and a failed writ of habeus corpus. I'm going on 6 months of my wife illegally withholding my daughter from me and I'm a super reasonable person. I just want an update. I've called, emailed, and texted everyone I know at Themis for about a week with 0 correspondence, 0 updates, 0 reassurance. Like I said, I'm not upset. I'm sad and embarrassed. I'm heartbroken that I will likely have to start over with another law firm and go longer without seeing my daughter. The communication is so terrible my wife asked me if they are even in business anymore.
