If there was an agreement to pay property taxes in lieu of rent then they should pay the property taxes incurred while they resided on the property.

If the lawyer never put his name for payment from the estate, can he come after my personal account or hurt my credit?

It depends upon the fee agreement you signed. Also depends on whether it was a probate. Generally, probate fees can only be paid out of the estate, not from you personally. Probate is expensive however. Look at your fee agreement and if you feel he should not be charging that, ask for fee arbitration through the state bar of California.

I suspect you will need to consult with a lawyer for assistance. It does not sound like you will get anywhere with your husband's employer on your own. If you have a remedy, it likely is in court by suing your husband's former employer. Note that I am not saying you have a viable claim. I am simply saying that any claim you have will likely need to be pursued in court.
