I suggest you contact your bankruptcy lawyer to determine whether the equity loans are going to be discharged. If not, then it may not be worth leaving the property to your daughter. However, even if the equity loans are removed from your property, and you leave the residence to your daughter, the daughter will still have to pay off or refinance the first mortgage to retain the residence.

Medicaid is entitled to most everything. However, there may be ways to minimize the outlay and generally the facility's social worker will assist you with that.

How do I find out if an estate has been closed?

If you have a copy of any document that was filed with the court, you can look up the status of the probate in the court's files. The list of documents of cases in many courts is on line. You can go to the county court website for the county where the estate was probated, use their database to search to find the names of documents under your case number. Counties have different systems for obtaining actual copies of documents, however.
