Is there anyway I can stop this divorce? How?

Steven Palme'
Answered by attorney Steven Palme' (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Palme Law Firm, P.A.
As long as he has met the requirements of (1) being separated for more than 1 year and (2) intending that the separation be permanent, you cannot stop the divorce. It is extremely important, however, that if you have property issues or alimony issues or other support issues, that you have either resolved them in a separation agreement or Court order OR you have filed a lawsuit for equitable distribution and alimony BEFORE a divorce judgment has been entered. If you don't have an equitable distribution and/or alimony claim pending when a divorce judgment is entered, you lose the right to make those claims forever.

Can I get spousal support if I have been married for twenty years?

Answered by attorney Joanna Marie Mitchell (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Joanna Mitchell & Associates, P.A.
If you have a need and he has the ability to pay, then yes, you can get spousal support, especially with a long term marriage of 20 years. You should consult with an attorney regarding the potential alimony issue, as well as any others that might exist.

Alimony

Answered by attorney Cindy S. Vova
Divorce lawyer at Law Offices of Cindy S. Vova, P.A.
Beacuse you were divorced in Maryland, even though you are now in Florida, Maryland law would apply.   That said, and not knowing Maryland law, I would guess that whether or not you can modify your alimony depends on the specific language in your agreement.  The best thing to do is have the alimony provision reviewed by a Maryland attorney.   Best of luck, Cindy S.
