How long does a divorce take? Is my wife's income considered in determining child support?

In Michigan, a divorce with minor children has a statutory 6 month waiting period, although this can be waived in some cases. All issues will be determined during this process including support. Both parties incomes will be factored into the calculation for child support. Talk to an attorney to discuss these issues further and determine your options.

If the court reserves jurisdiction on the issue of spousal support, an order for some temporary help can be made but the court will also order her to make good faith efforts to find other work and to give you proof of those efforts on a regular basis.

Can I just mail him the papers and let him sign his part?

If he is properly served and does not disagree with your requests in the petition and does not respond you can request entry of default. If he responds then you both will either need to agree in the terms and move forward with an uncontested dissolution or go to court and dispute the terms.
