Is an unwitnessed, un-notarized letter legally binding?

It is difficult to tell from your recitation of the facts but the outcome would be in court. Generally if you sign a typewritten paper of your authorship with the intent to be bound it is your agreement and contract. This in this case, however, there is a court order and it may well be that you are not empowered to make the agreement.
