How long the civil order of protection is in effect and can it be cancelled in the future if the case is dropped?

The protection order probably has the date it expires on the face of it. If the order was granted as a probation matter it will continue to its full term or until the judge determines that you do not need it. If the case and the restraining order are dropped, and you still fear for your life, get a personal protection order from the circuit court.

Can we still have the retainer fee refunded?

Cynthia Russell Henley
Answered by attorney Cynthia Russell Henley (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Cynthia Henley
Whether or not a contract was signed, if the lawyer did work on the case then the lawyer is entitled to be compensated. If you have not paid as agreed - even if the agreement was oral - then it is not surprising that the lawyer has advised you that if you do not pay that the lawyer will withdraw. (That there isan unsigned contract certainly supports the lawyer's argument that you knew theretainer fee was nonrefundableand that you had to maketimely payments.) The lawyer is entitled to be paid for their time and work on your behalf.

When is a traffic stop leagally over?

Anthony S. Simpson
Answered by attorney Anthony S. Simpson (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at The Law Offices of Anthony Simpson, Esq.
There is no set time for a traffic stop. The officer cannot hold you past the time a reasonable traffic stop would take and then hold you while he waits for a K-9. I do not have enough information to give you an opinion as to whether or not the officer held you too long. You should consult an attorney.
