What can I do if I have mental illness and I am facing legal trouble?

Answered by attorney Jason William Savela
Criminal Law lawyer at The Savela Law Firm, P.C.
Get the proof of completion of community service, directly from the folks you did community service for. A short note on letterhead indicating the amount of time and approximately when it was completed. Make copies, send one to the court, keep one in a safe place, keep one on you if you get arrested. As for missing court, you can call the court and ask when you can come in to resolve it. Many courts have a day when they are willing to add on a case - you may want to call the prosecutor and try to work something out over the phone, but they often do not answer or call back. You can contact a bondsman to try to deal with any warrants so you do not spend much time in jail , but you may have to turn yourself in to clear up warrants and get a court date. If you had a public defender on these cases previously, you might contact that person.

If I was convicted of a felony drug charge but it will be reduced to a misdemeanor will I get my gun rights back?

Criminal Law lawyer at R. Jason de Groot, P.A.
If you were convicted of a felony, it cannot later be reduced to a misdemeanor. It is a 2nd degree felony for a convicted felon to have possession of a firearm. And there is a 3 year minimum mandatory prison sentence for this crime. Do not think that you can get a felony conviction reduced to a misdemeanor conviction after the fact.

Is security allowed to interrogate a minor without parental consent?

Answered by attorney Marshall S. Tauber
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Offices of Marshall S. Tauber
This is a shakedown by store security. Nothing they say can be trusted. But nothing your brother may have said is admissible in court. If your family gets a bill from the store for $200.00 do not pay them without contacting an experienced criminal defense lawyer.
