He served as a Legal Advisor to TermScout, a Denver-based legal-tech company that helps people and businesses understand the contracts and privacy policies they agree to so they can make better decisions about what terms to accept. A frequent speaker, Mr. Cohen promotes the use of plain English over Legalese. His article, How to Draft a Bad Contract, has been republished many times and is used in several law schools.

An accomplished writer, Mr. Cohen authored six articles for the Am.Jur. Proof of Facts series, including one on piercing the corporate veil. One of his interests is the use of Plain English rather than legal jargon. He studied logic and philosophy at the graduate level and is a member of the Institute for General Semantics. He writes a regular column for the Nederland Mountain-Ear.

Mr. Cohen's skill in translating documents from "Legalese" into plain English is well known, and other Colorado lawyers have hired him to review and edit briefs and other legal documents. He gave a presentation to the Colorado Bar Association on issues unique to mountain real estate and in 2022 was invited to speak on the law of easements at the Rocky Mountain Surveyors Summit. He has presented CLE classes on contract drafting and piercing the corporate veil for Strafford Publications, Rossdale CLE, MESA CLE, and LawPracticeCLE, among others.

We interviewed a few different attorneys that specialized in real estate contracts and litigation. We needed someone who communicated well with us, was knowledgeable, and reliable. We knew after our first conversation that Mark was our guy. He was extremely direct with us, while also showing great care. His guidance and expertise saved us a lot of frustration (and possibly) money. We are so grateful to Mark and I advise anyone needing legal real estate advise to contact him.

Mark Cohen represented our Homeowners Association in a complicated lawsuit dealing with a 50 year-old road easement whose ownership was not clearly defined. There were 6 parties to the lawsuit, including the County. There was not an inexpensive or easy resolution to the lawsuit, yet Mark was very attentive to the HOA and the numerous details and filing deadlines of the lawsuit from beginning to end. He had a firm grasp of the law governing property rights, easements, and settlement agreements. Mark helped our HOA navagate the the complicated legal matters before us and negotiated a settlement that protected the HOA’s rights with this road easement. We are very happy with Mark’s work and the resolution to the lawsuit. St Anton Highlands First Addition HOA

We had tried to use two other lawyers for a family real estate issue and it was a disaster. One sent us the wrong paperwork three times and the other sent us a ton of unnecessary paperwork and charged us double what Mark would have, found that out after working with Mark . Was frustrated and exhausted when I first contacted Mark to see if he cold help and I have to say I wish I would have called him first. He was knowledgeable, honest and explained things in a very sensible manner. He was timely in all of his responses and offered thoughtful advice. If you need a lawyer who actually cares then this is your guy.

Mr. Cohen has helped me to escape from a financially and emotionally abusive partnership that involved millions in real estate investments. After Mr. Cohen filed a partition suit for me to resolve these issues, my former partner filed a dissolution of marriage action based on an alleged common marriage. Mr. Cohen not only succeeded in obtaining an order dismissing that dissolution case with prejudice, but succeeded in convincing the Office of Attorney Regulation to bring an action against opposing counsel for misconduct. Mark is an incredibly committed advocate, thorough, astute, reliable, and organized. He has been a stand-up guy for me. I highly recommend him. You will be lucky to have him on your side.
