If I used a bondsman to bail someone out of jail but I still owe them money, can I go to jail for non-payment?

Answered by attorney Austin M Hirschhorn (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Austin Hirschhorn, P.C.
Non payment of debt is not punishable by jail. I assume you signed some documents with the bondsman and he could sue you on the debt and possibly foreclose on any security that was given for the bond. That would require legal action on the bondsman's part and you would have to be served with the suit papers.

Short sale after bankruptcy / qualify for a new mortgage ?

Answered by attorney John Schleiffarth
Bankruptcy lawyer at JCS Law
If your mortgages were discharged in bankruptcy there should have been no need for a short sale. There would have been no debt obligation. Please clarify. The waiting period to qualify for a loan backed by the federal government following a short sale is 2 years.

If I sold a car 15 months before considering bankruptcy, will there be any problem?

Diane L Drain
Answered by attorney Diane L Drain (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Law Office of D. L. Drain, P.A.
Probably not if you sold it for what is was worth. Please understand that bankruptcy is a very complicated process. It is wise to talk to an experienced bankruptcy attorney before deciding to take this important step.
