About Ira W. Bloom

Ira W. Bloom is a senior partner in the firm. He has practiced in the land use and municipal areas for many years. Mr. Bloom has been Town Attorney for Westport since 1998 and has served as counsel to Easton for several years. He has also represented other municipalities, along with numerous applicants and neighborhood associations throughout the state. He is a graduate of Clark University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and he is an honors graduate of the University Of Connecticut School Of Law. Mr. Bloom is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association Planning and Zoning Executive Committee, where he currently serves as the vice chairman. Mr. Bloom is on the board of the Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys (CAMA). He is also a member of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Planners Association (CCAPA) and he is a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. Mr. Bloom has written a number of articles for the Connecticut Lawyer, including an article on cell towers in the October, 2002 issue and an article on Poirier v. Zoning Board of Appeals in the June/July 2004 issue. Mr. Bloom was a speaker on March 28, 2000 at the CBA Advanced Planning and Zoning Seminar; a speaker at the CBA Annual Meeting on June 5, 2000; and a speaker at the CBA seminars on Land Use for Municipal Agencies, Boards, and Commissions on March 3, 2001, March 1, 2003, and March 5, 2005. He also spoke at the Connecticut Chapter of the American Planners Association on February 15, 2002, and the CBA Advanced Planning and Zoning Seminar on March 1, 2002. He was also the co-chair and a speaker at the Planning and Zoning Litigation Seminar on November 15, 2002. He was also a speaker at forums regarding the Poirier v. ZBA of Wilton case at both the Regional Bar Association on June 5, 2003, and the Southwest Regional Planning Agency (SWRPA) on July 29, 2003. He was a speaker at the CBA seminar on Basics of Land Use Law on December 18, 2003, the seminar on Hot Topics on May 13, 2004, the seminar on Land Use Essentials on March 24, 2006, and the CCM-CAMA (Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys) on October 3, 2006. Mr. Bloom is a member of the International Municipal Lawyers Association and regularly attends their national meetings. He also served as Chairman of the Westport Board of Education, serving on that board for eight years.
