I got what I wanted, but I had to do the research on divorce law and tell him what my rights were as an abused spouse. I had to send emails asking him about the status of things, only for him to say, he's waiting on me to send him something that I had already sent! I was charged every time I sent an email or talked to him, even if it was to resend stuff. Our face to face meeting was mostly to remind him of everything we'd already talked about and to listen to him talk about another case.
Every time I go to see him, I have to rehash my entire situation. He has even called me by the wrong first name. He doesn't seem to have any real advice for me, probably because I don't have much money. Every time I go to see him, as i am leaving, he says "Remember, no boy-toys." I have assured him that I have no intention to see anyone until I am divorced. He also takes calls while I am in conference with him and talks candidly on the phone about stuff that is none of my business.
Mr. Smalley's website states that he gives a FREE consultation. I met with him for a divorce, then the next day put it on hold. 5 days later I called back to cancel it. I was told I would be receiving a refund. Once the end of the month comes he charges me for 2 hours worth of work. He states that he prepared this and did that but never provided me with documentation on such work. The invoice shows he charged me for the FREE consultation. $600 later he says he worked on my case but did nothing!
Worst attorney in Ellis County. You will do all the work yourself, and never get a response from his law firm. His paralegal is awful and hateful. Do not waste your time or money on this law firm. They will suck your money dry and not produce any results they promise.
I gave tom a $2500 retainer so he could try and talk me out of getting controlling custody of my kids then has me go to court so my ex would drop them off where she was supposed to to begin with. He talks a good game but in my case i dont make enough money for a $2500 bill each court date.
Its not because I lost because I won but it came back several years later and was dismissed from the judge like it never happened all because tom for got to send me notice to appear in court.
