About Nancy J Turbak

With a distinguished record of trial advocacy and public service, Nancy Turbak Berry has built a career protecting people harmed by negligence. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and former chair of South Dakota’s chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and she was one of South Dakota’s earliest board-certified specialists in Civil Trial Advocacy and Civil Pretrial Practice. Nancy has taught at the USD School of Law and served on the faculty of the National College of Advocacy. In 2025 the South Dakota Trial Lawyers presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Her honors also include Trial Lawyer of the Year (1997), Attorney of the Year from South Dakota Women in Law, and repeated listings in Best Lawyers in America. After graduating with honors from Harvard and earning her J.D. from University of California, Berkeley, she founded Turbak Law Office, P.C. in 1982. Since 1989 her practice has focused on personal injury and insurance litigation—resolving many claims through negotiation while remaining trial-ready to secure major verdicts. A former magistrate and state senator, Nancy remains engaged in Watertown civic life and practices with her sons Seamus and Liam Culhane.
