Peter Glaws is an experienced litigator in federal and state trial and appellate courts, with many reported decisions to his name. Peter’s broad litigation practice includes complex commercial disputes (including professional liability defense, complex construction litigation, corporate disputes, estate and trust litigation, and intellectual property and technology law (copyright and trademark infringement cases).
Playing a key role in the professional liability practice, Peter regularly represents accountants, lawyers, architects, and other professionals including international, national, and regional accounting firms in disputes arising out of complex auditing, tax, consulting, and other accounting services. Peter represents law firms of all sizes in disputes, which have included, among other things, underlying patent applications, real estate transactions, white collar criminal defense, and litigation (commercial and civil). Peter also represents professionals before state and national licensing and regulatory bodies such as state bar authorities, boards of accountancy, inspectors general, and federal agencies.
Peter further serves as outside counsel to large and small businesses. In that role, Peter leverages his knowledge of how certain issues can lead to years of protracted litigation and applies that experience in contract negotiation (including drafting or revising professional engagement letters, master service agreements, HIPAA business associate agreements, and other contracts), corporate governance and governing documents, risk management, data loss and cyber liability, subpoena responses, selected tax issues, and other general legal matters. Peter has also counseled numerous professional firms on acquisitions or combinations with other firms.
Before joining Carr Maloney, Peter served as a law clerk in the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, where he worked on white-collar criminal litigation and analyzed the impact of pending federal legislation on the Commonwealth.
Peter is a graduate of The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, cum laude. At Catholic, Peter served as notes-and-comments editor for the Journal of Law, Philosophy, and Culture and was a member of the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot Court Team. Peter is a graduate of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from York College of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude.
