Knighton & Stone, PLLC is a law firm established in 2011 with an office in The Woodlands, TX. At this office location, there are 2 lawyers practicing federal income taxation, corporate law, partnerships and 4 other areas of law.
Jay and his staff were cordial, professional and made us feel confident/comfortable with the entire process. He displayed genuine understanding and care for what we wanted to accomplish with our family estate planning.
My feedback is based on email correspondence between Jay Knighton and myself regarding the direction I should take since my father passed and gave land to my brother and I. I had no idea that I would be charged for simply inquiring the type of attorney and which direction I should take. I recently had Jay write up a will for my wife and I, which went very well and I thought that process was excellent. The bill itself is not large, but it is the principal of the matter. BEWARE!
The lawyer that was handling my case is no longer with the firm. Too bad for me. they dont know answers to my questions because my case is just a file. I call about something regarding an estate and they give me a general answer that doesn't fit terms of the will in question. Then charge me $275.00. Especialy after a 5 figure bill. Now that the case is done and that lawer is gone i guess its time to get a new lawyer.
I was VERY disappointed in the lack of flexibility in this firm. I asked for a will and THOUGHT I possibly needed a trust. After receiving the DRAFT docs and seeing that they were BOILERPLATE, I decided that I did not need a trust....I then asked if I could get a refund on the TRUST portion only, but I was told the work had been done....NOT...... and no refund was given... $1000 down the drain!!!!.... So pissed off and mad at myself for using these folks, I could write more, but only 500 words
After the attorney I worked with resigned from the firm and I had paid $3500 for a will they would only revise it as I wanted for an upcharge of $600. They claim a change in scope when I decided against having trusts (after they didn't draft it consistent with my requests) and asked for a simplified, no trust will.So, I'm out $3500 with no product since I wouldn't give them another cent.
Do not utilize this firm! They will over charge you and if you ever need to make changes to the will, it will cost you an arm and a leg. Oh, they also charge for every email that you write, so be warned.
