Mr. Altizer was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1975 and the West Virginia State Bar in 2003. He practices in all local, state, and federal courts, including the Virginia Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, representing creditors only. He also practices before various state agencies, including the Virginia ABC Board and the Virginia Unemployment Agency. Current memberships include the Tazewell County and Virginia Bar Associations with membership in the real estate section. He is a member of the Energy Foundation and the National School Board Association Council of School Attorneys. Mr. Altizer is a member at large of the Tazewell Lions Club and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Social Services. For many years he has been the counsel to the Tazewell County School Board. Although Mr. Altizer engages in most areas of the law, the emphasis of his practice is mineral law, real estate law, corporate law, school law, equity practice, elder law, and contracts. He often is called upon to act as an expert witness in matters involving mineral and real property law.
