I fired Maurice after 10 long months of mediation and chose instead to hire my own legal representation in the matter of my divorce. Looking back, I now know that our case could not have been mediated. In my opinion, someone with +20 years of experience mediating divorces should have been able to recognize that we were not good candidates for mediation. By not advising us to seek a more traditional lawyer-to-lawyer divorce, he put his own best interests ahead of the best interests of his clients. While I do believe in the merits of mediation generally, I would not recommend using Maurice to mediate the divorce of a friend.
