    Significant Cases: Likins v. Morford: 2015 L 43 (Macon Co.) Represented homeowner in a three-day premises liability jury trial in Macon County state court (Decatur). The plaintiff, a United States Postal worker, sustained two broken legs when she fell down the front porch steps at the defendant's home. The trial centered on whether the defendant knew, or should have known, that the condition of the stairs presented an unreasonable risk of harm. Several witnesses testified regarding the issue of notice,
    each party retained vocational experts to testify about the lost wages claim. Plaintiff had more than $50,000 in related medical expenses, significant permanency,
    claims for future medical expenses
    lost wages. Plaintiff asked the jury to award approximately $650,000 in total damages. After two hours of deliberation, the jury returned with a completed defense verdict.
    Carnahan v. _______: 2015 L 137 (Macon Co.) Represented homeowner in dog bite case in two-day jury trial in Macon County state court (Decatur). The plaintiff sustained pit bull bite wounds to his hip area resulting in permanent scarring. Defendant homeowner admitted liability
    contested damages only. The plaintiff asked the jury for more than $50,000 in damages. The jury awarded only $10,684.47 in damages, which was significantly less than the settlement offer made before trial.
    Harlow v. B_____: 2011 SC 2763 (Sangamon Co.) Represented basement waterproofing company in jury trial in Sangamon County state court (Springfield). The plaintiff, a homeowner, alleged her basement flooded as a result of a defective waterproofing system installed by the defendant. At the close of the plaintiff's evidence, the defendant moved for a directed verdict, which the court granted.
    Rhodes v. _______: 2017 SC 2862 (Sangamon Co.) Represented auto body shop in bench trial in Sangamon County state court (Springfield). The auto body shop towed plaintiff's vehicle from her property at the request of the co-defendant. Plaintiff alleged that the auto body wrongfully towed her vehicle
    damaged it during the tow. Plaintiff claimed approximately $10,000 in property damages, attorney's fees,
    additional expenses at trial. At the close of the evidence, judgment was entered in favor of the auto body shop. The judge found that plaintiff failed to prove any damages caused by the auto body shop.
