Jason S. Newcombe
Managing Attorney | Criminal Defense, DUI, Bankruptcy, Family Law, and Traffic Defense
Washington State Attorneys
Jason S. Newcombe is a highly experienced Washington State attorney who has spent more than three decades representing individuals and families across a wide range of legal matters. As the founder of Washington State Attorneys, he leads a multi-practice firm that has built a strong reputation throughout Western Washington for delivering effective, practical, and results-driven legal representation.
Mr. Newcombe began his legal career as a prosecutor in the mid-1990s, where he gained firsthand experience building criminal cases from the State’s perspective. That early work continues to shape his approach today. Having handled cases on both sides of the courtroom, he understands not only how prosecutors evaluate evidence and pursue charges, but also where those cases are most vulnerable. This dual perspective allows him to anticipate strategies, identify weaknesses, and develop thoughtful defenses tailored to each client’s situation.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Newcombe has successfully handled thousands of civil traffic infraction and criminal cases, including DUI and physical control charges, assault, theft, and other misdemeanor and felony offenses. His firm is one of the larger speeding and traffic ticket firms in Western Washington. Jason and the traffic attorneys that work with him have helped thousands of traffic violation clients get their ticket dismissed or reduced down to a non-moving violation. Over his career, Jason has always focused on handling all criminal driving matters including DUI, Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, Hit and Run, and Reckless Endangerment.
In addition to his criminal defense work, Mr. Newcombe has developed the firm's bankruptcy practice with an understanding that bad things happen to good people all the time. Over the past twenty years, he and the attorneys working with him have successfully filed thousands of bankruptcy petitions on behalf of Washington residents. This extensive experience includes both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases, allowing the firm to guide clients through a wide range of financial situations. Over the years, their bankruptcy attorneys have helped hundreds of people throughout Western Washington save their home by entering into Chapter 13 "home saver" plan.
The firm’s bankruptcy practice is focused on helping individuals eliminate overwhelming debt and achieve a meaningful financial reset. Clients often come to the firm facing serious financial hardship due to unforeseen medical expenses, job loss, divorce, high credit card debt, Payday or Moneytree loans, or other unexpected life events. Many of our clients also find themselves in a position of having to file for bankruptcy after having to care for an elderly parent. Mr. Newcombe and his team understand that these situations are not simply financial problems, but deeply personal challenges. Their debt relief lawyers understand that no one sets it in life to fall behind the financial eight ball.
Over the decades, the firm has developed a practical understanding of how bankruptcy cases are evaluated by trustees and courts, how to structure filings effectively, and how to avoid common pitfalls that can delay or complicate the process. This depth of experience allows the bankruptcy team to provide solutions that are both legally sound and tailored to each client’s long-term financial goals.
Mr. Newcombe also leads a well-established family law practice that is widely respected throughout Western Washington. The divorce lawyers at the firm bring decades of combined experience handling complex divorce and family law matters, including property division, child custody, spousal support, and post-decree modifications. The firm is known for its ability to manage high-conflict cases while maintaining a focus on practical and sustainable outcomes for clients and their families.
Mr. Newcombe’s academic background reflects the same level of discipline and commitment that he brings to his legal practice. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon Honors College, completing a rare quadruple major, and went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, graduating summa cum laude.
Throughout his career, Mr. Newcombe has received numerous professional honors recognizing both his legal ability and his ethical standards. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer, an honor awarded to only a small percentage of attorneys based on peer recognition and professional achievement. He also holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available for legal ability and ethics, along with a 10.0 “Superb” rating from Avvo and multiple client-focused awards.
Mr. Newcombe is admitted to practice in Washington State and the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He has extensive experience representing clients in courts throughout King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston, Kitsap, Skagit, and Whatcom counties.
With decades of experience across criminal defense, bankruptcy, family law, and traffic matters, Jason S. Newcombe has built a practice centered on informed and aggressive advocacy, strategic thinking, and practical solutions. His background as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney enables him to investigate and develop the theory of a case from both sides of the table.
