Helaine Gregory is a diversified professional and Board candidate with over 30 years of experience, including roles as an Attorney, Compliance Officer, President of a legal consulting firm, and Board Advisor. With a deep track record of achievements across multiple functional areas, she has consistently maintained high standards of excellence and paved the way for both immediate and long-term results.
For the past 20 years, Helaine has served in multiple capacities as the President of her own private legal consulting firm. Founding the business in 2002, she assists clients in a broad range of disciplines and functional areas, with a primary focus in biopharmaceutical specialty and rare disease market access strategy development and managed care contract negotiation in the U.S. and Puerto Rico (location agnostic). Some of the representative matters that she covers are Pharmacy Benefit Manager and specialty pharmacy agreement negotiation and drafting, 340b exposure analysis, payer account management, and general eco-political advice.
Over the past two decades, Helaine has built an extensive roster of clients and a vast portfolio of successful engagements, providing the impetus and acumen for organizations to capitalize on business development opportunities. Her deep dedication to client goals, coupled with her ability to provide optimal recommendations (including no-go decisions), has earned her implicit trust and respect from this client base.
In this capacity, Helaine was invited to join the Board of Advisors of an investment consultancy to analyze and recommend proposals requesting capital investments. To date, she has provided expertise on investment suitability and business acumen, corporate structure, and operations of proposed business ventures to enable the consultancy to move forward on specific opportunities.
Further, Helaine is a member of several expert networks, most notably Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG). For GLG alone, Helaine has been a member for the last eighteen (18) years, and completed eighty-four (84) consultancies to date. The majority are with investment house analysts in the healthcare and life sciences space (venture capital, hedge funds, private equity), who are looking for independent advice when contemplating engagement with providers and biopharmaceutical companies.
During this period and after serving as a legal consultant to the organization for a number of years, Helaine was engaged to join Fresenius Kidney Care as their Vice President of Operations for the Puerto Rico Region, with full profit-and-loss accountability for a multi-site operation (27 dialysis clinics). With strategic and tactical leadership, she drove multimillion-dollar growth via acquisitions and footprint expansion, facilitated a series of efficiency increases, and achieved other core corporate objectives.
Previously, as a Director of Forensic and Litigation Services with KPMG, Helaine completed multiple consulting assignments for clients from a wide range of industries – again, all within a one-year timeframe. Within each engagement, she provided the expertise and support that led to game-changing and measurable results. Prior to this, as a Business Practices Program Director (Compliance Officer) with UnitedHealth Group, Helaine was part of a team of 1,400 employees across nine locations and built a record of success in terms of external business development and internal team building. Previous roles included Associate General Counsel, Attorney, and Associate Attorney with two Blue Cross/Blue Shield health plans.
The common hallmarks of Helaine Gregory’s career are subject matter expertise, innovative strategy development, sound decision-making, business acumen, and the building of strong, sustainable relationships. She is a tireless leader and dedicated professional who is not afraid to stand her ground when necessary, but also understands the value of collegiality and collaboration. Helaine is particularly intrigued by opportunities to help lead organizations in early growth and turnaround stages, as her experience and expertise in both can add tangible value and benefits.
