I use the 90 / 10 rule when it comes to dealing with professionals (Insurance agents, estate planners, lawyers, accountants, etc..). My point is that 90% of these professionals are terrible, average or just want to sell you product or their services without really taking the time to custom orient a solution to your needs specifically. Only 10% of these professionals are worthy of their profession. Of these 10 percent (who are hard working and desirous relative to accomplishing your goals and objectives), very few of them fall into that pocket of trusted advisor status. These are the professionals who listen to you and form expert answers around the situation you describe. They know they may not have all the answers for you, but are willing to tailor a solution around the specific needs you have based on your individual situation.
