Luther R. Lewis is a Phi Beta Kappa and high honors graduate of the University of California, Davis, with his undergraduate degree in mathematics. He received a Master's degree in history and a secondary teaching credential, also from the University of California, Davis. Before attending law school, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer and taught full-time at a public high school for three years.
Since beginning private practice in 1983, Luther has specialized in public entity defense and insurance defense and coverage, including premises liability, products liability and professional malpractice defense. Luther was an associate and then a shareholder with our firm until 1996. He was then recruited by Farmers Insurance Exchange, and became a Supervising Attorney with the Sacramento legal office. While with Farmers he defended commercial and individual insureds throughout northern and central California, before returning to Johnson Schachter & Lewis in 2003.
Luther has presented seminars on defense and coverage issues for the National Business Institute and for Continuing Education of the Bar, as well as for in-house groups. He is a member of the Sacramento County and Yolo County Bar Associations, and is a court-approved arbitrator in Sacramento County.
