About Mitchell Garber

Mitch Garber is a partner in the law firm of Worth, Longworth & London, LLP which specializes in the representation of members of law enforcement. Since 1997, the law firm has been counsel to the New York City Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, the union representing over 23,000 New York City Police Officers. In that capacity, Mitch has advocated on behalf of countless police officers in criminal investigations, departmental disciplinary matters and complex federal civil rights trials.

Previously, Mitch was a prosecutor for over eight years in the Bronx District Attorney's Office, specializing in prosecuting sexual assault crimes. For his work with the F.B.I.-N.Y.P.D. Sexual Exploitation of Children Task Force, he was recognized by the Director of the F.B.I.

In 2010, Mitch was invited to participate in the Los Angeles Police Department, Force Investigation Division, training program regarding investigation and representation of officers involved in deadly use of force incidents.

In consultation with Senator Patrick Leahy's office, Mitch helped draft the 2010 amendment to HR 218, the federal law giving retired members of the law enforcement the legal right to carry a firearm interstate.

In 2012, Mitch was selected to participate and graduated from the F.B.I. Citizens' Academy, a program designed for community leaders to gain in depth exposure to the mission and operation of the F.B.I. and has continued his involvement by participating in community outreach projects.

In 2013, Mitch was appointed a member of incoming N.Y.P.D. Commissioner William J. Bratton's Transition Team, participating in an extensive review of Department personnel and procedures to assist the Police Commissioner in succeeding in his goal of a true partnership between the N.Y.P.D. and the community it serves.

Mitch has lectured to various law enforcement groups, including the Westchester County Chiefs of Police Association and the Police Conference of New York and has been recognized by his peers, recently receiving awards from the National Law Enforcement Associates and the F.B.I. National Academy Associates, N.Y.S./Eastern Canada Chapter.

Mitch has long been active in his community, having served as counsel to his religious organization, founded a not-for-profit youth travel baseball program and organized basketball tournaments whose proceeds were donated to cancer research.

Mitch and his dog, Rudy, recently became a therapy animal team through "Pet Partners," becoming certified to provide pet therapy to hospitalized pediatric patients, elderly residents of nursing homes and veterans at VA facilities.
