James Fryer wears many hats as Chief of Staff—and he wouldn’t have it any other way. With a background that spans law, education, business leadership, and public service, James brings a wide-ranging perspective that allows him to step in wherever he’s needed to support both the team and the good people the firm represents.
Before joining Reynolds Defense Firm, James built a career that combined complex legal work with high-level operational leadership. As an attorney, he handled employment and business litigation, wrote and argued motions, and successfully briefed cases before the Oregon Court of Appeals. He has also worked on large-scale negotiations, international transactions, and high-stakes disputes, giving him a strong foundation in strategy, problem-solving, and clear communication.
In addition to his legal practice, James has held leadership roles in both education and business. He served as Senior Director for Employee Relations for the Beaverton School District, where he negotiated agreements with labor unions, handled sensitive workplace investigations, and led key human resources initiatives. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly a decade with Bank of America as a Vice President and Financial Center Manager, overseeing large teams, advising business clients, and managing operations across multiple markets.
An Oregonian who is glad to be back near the mountains, James values being part of a team that genuinely cares about helping people through difficult moments. His diverse background allows him to approach challenges from multiple angles, ensuring the firm operates smoothly while staying grounded in its mission.
Outside of work, James enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time playing video games—recharging so he can continue showing up fully for the team and the clients they serve.
