Who is responsible for my medical bills if I fell in a parking lot of a business?

Gregory Casale
Answered by attorney Gregory Casale (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at Gregory Casale, Attorney at Law
Unless you can show that someone was negligent and that caused you to fall and hurt yourself, then you are responsible. That is what Personal Injury law is all about. If someone allowed an unsafe situation on their property and you can show that they know or should have known that it was unsafe, and also prove that it was this negligence that caused you to hurt yourself, then the property owner and/or his insurer will be held responsible.

There is one case I know of where police were found to have used excessive force when they used a tazer unnecessarily. But, from the situation you describe, I doubt you will garner much sympathy.

Could I be sued if my son gets in an accident and my name is on the title?

David F. Stoddard
Answered by attorney David F. Stoddard (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at The David F. Stoddard Law Firm
No just because your name is on the title. There is a Family Purpose Doctrine which makes an individual who provides a car to a household member to be used for the convenience of the household. This would normally apply to a parent who provides a car for his wife or child, or both. If your son is not a household member or if he is making the car payment, the doctrine would not apply.
