How long do I have to file a personal injury lawsuit?

You can't sue your employer even if they were negligent because your only remedy against them is Worker's Compensation. Did you get your settlement based on both injuries, or just the first? If it's just the first, then you can probably go back and get it adjusted, due to the second accident. There may be a possibility of going after someone other than your employer, with regard to the slip-and-fall, for example if there was a maintenance company or janitorial company that should have prevented or corrected the conditions which caused you to fall. If it is in NY, you have three years from the date of that accident.

Do I need an attorney for my personal injury case?

You should retain a lawyer, you can see that you did not get very far by yourself. A sprain is not going to be a severe enough of an injury to pursue a law suit in my view.

What can I do if the doctor mistreated me?

Answered by attorney Eric R. Chandler
Personal Injury lawyer at Chandler Conway, P.C., L.L.O.
First, follow up with a doctor as soon as possible to make sure there is not serious damage to your eye. The sticky gummy eye drops you are describing are pretty standard for eye exams. Typically, when you are seen for glaucoma, the doctor is doing a pressure test on your eyes and then dilating your eyes so that they can better see your optic nerves. The effect of this should be gone within 4-5 hours, however some people react differently. Again, the first thing I would do is call the doctor and let them know what id going on. Medical malpractice claims are very tough and very expensive. If you are okay, and there is no serious injury to your eye, it will likely not be worth pursuing a claim. If there was serious damage done to your eye, then set up a consultation with a medical malpractice attorney in your area as soon as you are able to.
