Is there anything I can do about a personal injury that happened twenty years ago?

Howard Dale Mishkind
Answered by attorney Howard Dale Mishkind (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at Mishkind Law Firm, Co., L.P.A.
In Ohio there is a defined period of time within which you must file a lawsuit to recover for injuries and damages caused due to negligence. If you were a minor under the age of 18 at the time of the accident you had until you turned 20 years old unless the incident involved medical care in which event you had until you turned 19. Not knowing how old you were at the time of your accident, I assume from your description that the incident that occurred 20 years ago would place your claim beyond any statute of limitations unless you were and remain legally incompetent in which even the statute of limitations may be tolled. Sorry but it sounds like you are likely too late to do anything from a legal perspective.

So I was staying at a hotel and a boy stole a truck and was doing donuts in the street hit another car and drove into my hotel room injuring me

Sounds like an interesting case.  It might pose some difficulty if the driver actually did steal the vehicle.  I would also be interested to know if you had your own auto policy with uninsured motorist coverage.  At the very least, you need to call and get a free consultation from a Dallas/Fort Worth area personal injury lawyer before you do anything else.

Can I sue the babysitter for negligence?

Thomas C. Bulman
Answered by attorney Thomas C. Bulman (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at Bulman Law Associates PLLC
Why would you sue your dear sister? What did she do or not do that contributed to the injury? If your son was horsing around, and fell, injuring himself, that is not negligence. Too bad Obamacare won't kick in soon enough. If you sister has homeowners' or renter's insurance, there may be coverage for medical expenses for any injuries that occur on the premises, regardless who is at fault.
