About Brandon J. Fernandes

Brandon J. Fernandes is an Associate at Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP, where he defends doctors, teaching hospitals, health care systems and other medical professionals in medical malpractice matters.

Prior to joining MCB, Brandon was a Senior Law Clerk for Hon. Elizabeth A. Taylor, Supreme Court, Civil Term, in the Bronx, New York. While there, he researched issues presented to the court; drafted decisions on motions; conducted court conferences on orders to show cause; and managed the hearing and conference calendars. Prior to his clerkship, he worked as an associate at a personal injury/medical malpractice law firm in the New York area. His areas of responsibility included legal research; detailed reviews of medical records; conducting discovery; preparing cases for trial; and drafting motions, pleadings, and correspondence. These various positions provided invaluable experience in legal draftsmanship, research methods, maintaining and analyzing medical records, and case management skills.

Brandon assisted in drafting the 'Pleadings & Filings' Chapter in the New York State Trial Lawyers Institute’s (NYSTLI) DECISIONS: Recent Developments in Tort Law (2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 editions), as well as the 2017 edition of Justice Leventhal’s Recent Case Law Regarding Crawford v. Washington. Additionally, he conducted research and drafted portions of A New Frontier in Science: A Judge’s Guide to Genetic Engineering and the Law.

Brandon received 2026 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America recognition for Medical Malpractice Law - Defendants. Attorneys receiving this honor are recognized by their peers early in their careers for outstanding professional excellence. He has also been selected to the New York Rising Stars list, earning the respect of his peers as one of the top-rated attorneys in the nation. This distinction is awarded to only 2.5 percent of attorneys annually in each state.

Brandon received his B.A. magna cum laude from Marist College in 2016, where he made Dean’s List and founded The Marist College Pre-Law Club. He earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2019, where he was awarded both the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Lark-Barranco Merit Scholarship. He was also a member of the International Legal Honor Society and the Brooklyn Law School Moot Court Honor Society. Brandon is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
