About Jessica L. Carroll

Jessica Carroll works with a team of attorneys to give clients a voice against corporations that prioritize profits over individuals’ health and safety. She focuses her practice on complex litigation involving medical drugs and devices as well as consumer fraud.

Jessica is part of the team representing dozens of governmental entities, including states, counties, cities, towns, and townships in litigation targeting the alleged deceptive marketing and over-distribution of highly addictive opioid drugs, a contended cause of the nationwide opioid crisis. She also contributes to multidistrict litigation against social media platforms such as Meta Platforms, Instagram, Snap and TikTok. Plaintiffs in In re Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation have alleged the defendants’ platforms are defective because they are designed to maximize screen time, which can encourage addictive behavior in adolescents and result in various emotional and physical harms, including death.

Jessica first joined Motley Rice in 2019 as a law clerk while completing her law degree. At the top of her class, Jessica received several CALI Awards and was a member of the James L. Petigru American Inn of Court. She served as symposium editor for the Charleston Law Review where she worked with Furman’s Riley Institute to organize one of the law school’s most successful legal symposia, benefiting services that support survivors of child sexual abuse and human trafficking. In addition to her class work and work for the firm, Jessica has volunteered hundreds of hours to the Charleston and Berkeley County Public Defender’s offices performing expungements for eligible clients to remove the stigma and barriers created by past criminal convictions which stand in the way of employment, housing, and child custody for many.

Prior to law school, Jessica worked for several technology companies dealing with cloud infrastructure and automotive marketing.
