We initially liked Matt Kaplan very much, however two years after my mother's medical malpractice case had closed, there came a disagreement over the cost of his services. Matt was retained to lead our medical malpractice settlement. His settlement negotiation begain after an inital $15,000 retainer. We were under the impression based on meetings with Matt, that any additional fees he incurred would be covered by the settlement. We were gravely mistaken. We came to learn Matt did not attempt to counter the offer made by the hospital. We learned Matt scheduled a hearing for the case without our knowledge, despite my insistence that I be present. The entirety of the settlement money was consumed by Matt, then in addition, we came to learn there would be additional fees, more than $8,000 after all the money was taken.
