About Bonnie Sockel-Stone

Bonnie Sockel-Stone is a Board Certified Specialist by the Florida Bar in Marital and Family Law, which is her sole area of practice. She has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1989 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and International Academy of Family Lawyers and has an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell. Bonnie has also been recognized as a Top-Rated Lawyer by Super Lawyers, an Outstanding Lawyer in Florida Trend's Legal Elite and was selected by Attorney At Law Magazine as one of the 13 to Watch in 2013 and has been recognized by Best Lawyers. Bonnie was the recipient of the Florida Bar Family Law Section Integrity Award in 2021, the Chair's Award for Extraordinary Service in 2019, the Chair's Award for Special Merit in 2019, the Above and Beyond Award in 2018 and 2019 and the Legislative Award in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Bonnie has a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and a B.S. in Accounting from University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting. She began her professional career with the accounting firms of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells and Ernst and Young. Her extensive accounting experience is utilized on a regular basis in her Marital and Family law practice.

Bonnie has authored articles for the Daily Business Review titled Divorcing Spouses Should Consider Tax-Filing Options, Preventing Same-Sex couples from Divorcing is Unjust and Plan Ahead for Holiday Time With Children in Divorce and has authored an article for the Huffington Post titled Discovering Hidden Assets: What Your Spouse Hasn't Disclosed During Your Divorce. She has also authored a module on Prenuptial Agreements for the Lexis Practice Advisor. Bonnie has lectured on Domestic Violence issues and has participated as a speaker for the Dade County Bar Association Family Law Committee Continuing Education Seminar, The Florida Bar Family Law Section Case Law Update and Mechanics of Board Certification and the AAML Webinar, A Matter of Trust: Trust Instruments in Divorce.

Bonnie is the Vice Chair of the Florida Bar Marital and Family Law Certification Committee for 2021-2022 and served as the Chair of the Florida Bar Constitutional Judiciary Committee for 2020-2021. Bonnie has been a member of the Florida Bar Family Law Section Executive Council since 2015. She served as Co-Chair of the Family Law Section Legislative Committee (2016-2018) and was actively involved in advocating for the 2018 legislation that bans child marriages. Bonnie has served as Co-Chair of the Equitable Distribution Committee from 2018-2021 and served as Chair of the of the 2019 Marital and Family Law Review Course Committee. Bonnie also serves on the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Florida Chapter Legislative, Institute and Webinar Committees. Bonnie is a member of the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, the Miami-Dade County chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Florida Family Law Inns of Court, and the American Bar Association.

Bonnie is always interested in providing pro bono legal services, especially regarding children's issues. She has served as a Lawyer For Children pro bono lawyer for foster care youth, provides pro bono legal services to domestic violence victims and has served as a pro bono Guardian Ad Litem.

Bonnie devotes a great deal of her free time giving back to the community. She served as President of the National Council of Jewish Women Greater Miami Section and received the Myra Farr Volunteer

Service Award. She also served as President of Kidside, Inc. and served on the CHARLEE board and the Temple Beth Sholom School Board.
