About Abbot and Murphy, P.C.

Established in 1977

The law firm of Abbot and Murphy, P.C. was established in 1977, but its roots date to 1951 when James C. Abbot joined his father, W. Wright Abbot, in the practice of law in Louisville. Wright Abbot (who died in 1969) was a distinguished lawyer, banker and jurist, as was his son, Jim Abbot. Mr. Abbot and John R. Murphy III formed the firm of Abbot and Murphy, P.C. in 1977, and Mr. Abbot headed the firm's general practice until his death in 1997. In 1987, Fred K. Harvey, Jr. joined the firm, and Mr. Harvey headed the business and corporate practice until his death in 2006. John Murphy has served as Judge of Jefferson County State Court since 1997 (an elected, part-time position), and has an active general practice, with emphasis on real estate and probate matters. The law firm is listed in the Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
