Our realtor directed us to HR&S for title work/closing of a home purchase. The numbers on the closing statements were wrong & I had to point out the errors & ask them to correct. The closing process itself went fine. We were assured that we had a clear title per the search with no liens against our home. We applied for a Home Equity Line of Credit with our bank but was advised that we could not close because the previous owner had a lien against the property. I called HR&S on 8/15 to find out that 5 wks after closing a prior lien had not been released. HR&S said they paid off the loan and would clear everything. I called back on 8/20, 8/23 and 8/28. Brittany rudely talked over me when we spoke and advised me it was not their responsibility to clear the lien. I understand they paid off the loan, but we paid for a clear title search. It should not be up to the consumer to make sure property liens are removed. It took over 7 wks to get this resolved! A clear title search should be CLEAR!!
