Getting married does not change the status of the marriage nor does it affect the L1. When an L1 holder gets married to a United States citizen, the L1 holder can ultimately apply for lawful permanent residency. If a L1 holder marries a non-citizen, the spouse might be able to benefit from it.

You should wait until you have had your green card for 5 years. You can only apply early if you are still married and still living together.
