I want to help a student

I believe that you can advise your congregant that he may be eligible for Pres. Obama's program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Such is available for individuals who entered the US prior to the age of 16 by June 2007. He has satisfied another of the requirements of having graduated from high school and so should be able to make the application on form I-821D. Following such approval, he would be given an employment authorization card with which he could obtain a Social Security number and work. The program would also allow him two years of deferred status to stay in the US after which there is possibility of further extensions. What is your asylum application status? You may be an arriving alien which would make you eligible to file for adjustment. retain an immigration attorney to represent you as this is complicated.

What are the next steps for an I30?

How did you enter the US? If you entered legally, then you file for residency. If you entered illegal, only if your petition was filed before 4/30/2001 can you file for residency here in the US otherwise you have to go to your native country to the US embassy, with the problem that you will need a waiver for remaining in the US illegally. Consult an attorney before taking action.
