Will a green card holder have to leave the US during a divorce?

Answered by attorney Louis M. Piscopo
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Louis M. Piscopo, APLC
If you were granted a permanent Green Card (ex. does not expire after 2 years) it is not affected by your divorce and you keep your status. If you were granted a conditional Green Card (ex. expires after 2 years), you can still file to remove the condition and obtain a permanent Green Card even if you are divorced.

Will my domestic charge affect my citizenship?

Answered by attorney Francis John Cowhig (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Francis John Cowhig
Your question requires an attorney consultation. It is not a simple question that can be answered on this type of forum. There are many factors that would need to be considered and evaluated. Were you convicted of a felony or misdemeanor? In general, a domestic violence conviction is a crime of violence which may affect your citizenship application and can get you deported.

What does petitioning for my wife entail?

Christine Victoria Troy
Answered by attorney Christine Victoria Troy (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Christine Troy
There are two ways for a person to obtain a green card through marriage. One is in the US and one is abroad via consular processing. You should consult with a competent immigration attorney now to determine eligibility for either option. I do not recommend calling DHS for assistance as they often give incorrect advice. I am happy to do a consult with you- my fee is $150 and the consult is one hour but otherwise call someone!
