Process to become an American citizen.

Answered by attorney Alan Lee
Immigration lawyer at Alan Lee Arthur Lee, Attorneys at Law
If your mother's parents became US citizens prior to your mother turning the age of 18, and your mother was a permanent resident at the time, she would be considered a citizen and could apply for either a US passport or U.S.C.I.S. recognition through an N-600 application for certificate of citizenship. If that did not occur, either you or your father could petition for her permanent residence. As the immediate relative of a US citizen, the process would be fairly quick and relatively easy.

He should become a US citizen, then he can sponsor his wife relatively quickly, provided they will qualify for I-601A provisional waiver, or some other option.
