What will happen if I am facing deportation?

Answered by attorney Eric M. Mark
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Eric M. Mark
You may be a U.S. citizen by way of your father, but if that was not brought to the attention of the court, they would deport you. Did you have a lawyer? You need to call a lawyer to provide some additional details. Even if you were deported, if you can prove your citizenship you will be able to return.

How can I obtain a different visa?

Answered by attorney Eric M. Mark
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Eric M. Mark
The company will need to sponsor you for the new visa. If it can get approved prior to expiration of your J1, and you do not have to return to your home country for two years, you can change status. You need to speak with an immigration lawyer because there are a lot of potential roadblocks and getting a work visa is very difficult.

Immigration lawyer at CoxEsq, PC
The short answer to your question is no.  You'll have to process your H1B at a consulate.
