Can my boyfriend sponsor me even if he had a previous sponsorship with his ex-wife?

Answered by attorney David L. Leon
Immigration lawyer at David L. Leon, P.C.
You're asking a few different things, and for a few different forms of relief. I'd have to get more information about your boyfriend, and his past relationship.

What age can I begin the process of helping them achieve their citizenship papers? Are they even eligible to receive citizenship?

You will need to be 21 to sponsor your parents. There is a program known as Parole in Place that might be able to help them.

Can I adjust my status to green card here or is the rule is only for marrying a citizen?

Answered by attorney Bruce A. Coane (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Coane & Associates, PLLC
Marriage to green card holder falls under a quota, so no immediate adjustment for anyone. And, if you are out of status, no adjustment even when quota is current. And, if you leave for visa interview, you will be subject to the 10 year bar. The best is to wait until your spouse is a US citizen, then file for adjustment.
