Hello, There is nothing to fear from writing a letter of recommendation about someone you know. As an U.S. citizen, the CIS will not have any reason to seek to deport you and there is no law that requires you to have only friends or companions that are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. If you feel that you can testify truthfully about the person's character then you can do so without fear. Can my husband qualify for the 40 qualifying quarters under SSA if he has been in US illigally but working with a vilid SS# issued to him

Answered by attorney David Troy Cox
Immigration lawyer at CoxEsq, PC
You should consult an expert on Social Security law, but I don't believe your husband will be eligible for any Social Security benefit because of his current immigration status.  Since he is married to a US citizen, why doesn't he just apply for permanent resident status?  He is eligible even if he overstayed his H1B visa.  Marriage to a US citizen waives that bar.
