You will probably need to file a request for your file under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to get access to your file. Without seeing what is in you file, no attorney can answer your question.

It is more than just "paperwork." Filing for a spouse is an extremely complicated process. If you are serious about this you will need to retain an immigration attorney.

Is that true that while one's application for Marriage Based Adjustment of Status is pending one can still travel outside and back again in the US?

Answered by attorney David H Nachman
Immigration lawyer at NPZ Law Group
If the person is traveling on a nonimmigrant visa that does not allow for dual intent the problem is that the marriage filing can be deemed by the government officials to be a manifestation of an intent to immigrate which contravenes the underlying intent required for the nonimmigrant visa.
